Family Welfare

Introduction

Introduction Welfare of each citizen is the AIM of family welfare Department. It is tried to achieve mainly through saving the lives of mothers and children and improving their health status as well as checking the population growth.

Programme
Different programmes like family planning (later on renamed as family welfare) and programmes like Maternal and Child Health, Universal Immunisation Programme, Diarrheal Control Programme, Acute Respiratory Tract Infection Control Programme, and other nutritional deficiency control programme (later on included incer one programme 'Child Survival & Safe Motherhood') were implemented with same objectives previously. During Ninth Five year plan period these all programmes were brought under one umbrella with greater service packages and wider coverage i.e. Reproductive & Child Health (RCH) Programme in year 1997 in India.

Implementation
Introduction Under the Guidance of Secretary & Commissioner (Family Welfare), Commissioner (Health) and Additional Director (Family Welfare) and through primary health care approach Family welfare department is striving to achieve complete welfare of the citizen by organizing and implementing RCH programme through out the state.

The state Family Welfare department is also carrying out special schemes like Integrated Population Development Project, link couples, rapid referral services, moped loans, National Maternity Benefit Schemes etc.

The department is actively working for polio eradication and Intensive Pulse Polio Campaign and surveillance for polio cases are being carried out.

Fund Assistance
With the assistance of World Bank 13 Districts, Surat, Valid, Dang. Bharuch, Panchmahal, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Mehasana, Havnagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Junagadh, Jamnagar, special RCH project t and one sub-project in Baroda district is being carried out.

In five weaker Districts with poor basic facilities with the assistance from UNFPA additional components of RCH as an Integrated Population Development Programme are being implement. These districts are Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Kutch, Surendranagar and Dahod.

With good coordination and team efforts improvement in quality and coverage of care at various levels are being achieved.
