It will be a record of sorts when more than 300 differently–abled people will participate in one of the biggest employment fairs on Friday at the Blind People‚Äôs Association (BPA).

The reason is apparent – for the first time, more than 30 corporate houses from the state and country and MNCs have extended support for the cause. BPA will be organising the event for the second consecutive year. Last year more than 150 people were offered jobs by various companies.

Shelly Bapna, a volunteer at BPA and PRO for the organization, told TOI that earlier companies like Designmate (India), Lemon Tree Hotels Safal Constructions, Café Coffee Day, Omni Lens, AGEIS Limited, Gujarat Ambuja Exports, Indian Hotels, TATA Teleservices and I Call India have participated.

"This year we are trying to invite much more national and international corporate like Standard Chartered Bank, ITC and Zydus Cadila to participate in the fair," she said. BPA officials said , they have received applications from across the state. "We have received more than 200 applications from across the state with different skill sets and education. Apart from the job fair, we are going to maintain a database of candidates," said Dr Bhushan Punani, executive director, BPA.
